Toca Madera Scottsdale is a modern Mexican steakhouse and dinner club in the luxury wing of Scottsdale Fashion Square.
It sits at 4736 N Goldwater Blvd, opened October 22, 2019, and is run by the Noble 33 group behind Tocaya Modern Mexican next door. Expect fire performers, a DJ, flaming tableside tomahawks, a strict no-athleisure dress code and a bill of roughly $100–$200+ per person for dinner with drinks.
Dinner runs Monday–Thursday 5–11 pm, Friday–Saturday 4 pm–1 am, Sunday 4–11 pm, with brunch Saturday and Sunday 11 am–4 pm. Happy hour is Monday–Thursday 5–7 pm at the bar and patio only: $8 cocktails, bites from $5. Toca Tuesday runs that menu all night throughout the restaurant.
I’ve watched Fashion Square’s north end turn into the Valley’s see-and-be-seen strip since Nobu and Toca Madera opened within a year of each other, and Toca is the one people ask me about most, usually with the same three questions: what does it cost, what do I have to wear, and is it a restaurant or a club. The old version of this page didn’t answer any of them. This one does, with everything pulled from Toca Madera’s own site, its Google listing and the review record as of September 15, 2026.
What Toca Madera Scottsdale Actually Is
“Toca madera” is Spanish for “knock on wood,” and the room is built around it: carved wood, low light, Tulum-style greenery and a DJ booth that matters more as the night goes on. The kitchen is a steakhouse with a Mexican accent rather than a Mexican restaurant with steaks. The dinner menu is anchored by Prime and Wagyu cuts, a raw bar, and a “33 Signatures” section named for the parent company. The theatrics are the point: fire performers move through the dining room on weekend nights, the 40 oz Wagyu tomahawk arrives flaming and is carved tableside, and several cocktails are served under smoke or on fire.
That makes it a specific kind of night out. The review record is consistent on this, and it’s the honest way to set expectations: people who book for a birthday, bachelorette weekend or a group celebration rate it highly; people who book for a quiet anniversary dinner tend to mention the volume. Two-hour table pacing is official policy, so it’s not a linger-over-coffee place either.
Toca Madera Scottsdale Menu Highlights
The full dinner menu is on tocamadera.com and changes seasonally. These are the sections and dishes on the September 2026 Scottsdale menu that reviewers order most and that define the place:
| Section | What’s on it | Order if |
|---|---|---|
| Starters | Guacamole with pomegranate and plantain chips; queso fundido with A5 chorizo; truffle quesadilla; crispy wonton tacos (A5 wagyu, or tuna and caviar) | You’re sharing for the table — the truffle quesadilla is the one people photograph |
| Raw bar | Chilean sea bass ceviche blanco; hamachi with smoked truffle ponzu; oysters; seafood tower | It’s a celebration and the tower is going on the group tab |
| 33 Signatures | Bone-in short rib barbacoa for two; chicken parm Mexicana; Mayan prawns in chipotle-mezcal butter; smothered Japanese A5 wagyu burrito | Two people, one big plate — the short rib for two is the value play on this menu |
| Á la Roca (fajitas) | Australian wagyu skirt steak, Jidori chicken or U-10 shrimp with rice, beans, guacamole and queso fundido | You want the theater without committing to a steak |
| Toca Steak | Prime: 6 oz petite filet, 8 oz flat iron, 16 oz NY strip, 18 oz ribeye, 40 oz porterhouse. Wagyu: Snake River Farms filet and ribeye; 40 oz flaming Black Opal tomahawk carved tableside. Japanese A5 striploin — Kobe, Olive — available as a flight of three | This is why you came; the 6 oz filet is the most-praised plate in the review record |
| Sea | Branzino; beer-battered sea bass tacos; seared scallops; roasted salmon with hibiscus-lime butter | Someone at the table isn’t eating beef |
| Sides | Street corn; truffle manchego fries; truffle mac and cheese; whipped potatoes with jalapeño oil; cilantro-lime rice; black beans | Order two for the table; reviewers call portions modest for the price |
Menu items from tocamadera.com/menus/scottsdale/dinner, September 15, 2026. Toca Madera does not publish prices on its website; steaks and A5 wagyu are market price.
Dietary coverage is better than the steakhouse framing suggests: the guacamole is vegan, the menu marks gluten-free items, and the kitchen builds vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian plates on request. The bar runs a deep tequila and mezcal list, the smoking and flaming cocktails the room is known for, and a zero-proof “Free Spirited Elixirs” list with no refined sugar for the non-drinker at the table.
How Much Does Toca Madera Scottsdale Cost?
Google lists Toca Madera Scottsdale at its top price tier ($$$$), and a typical à la carte dinner — shared starters, an entrée, a cocktail or two and dessert — lands in the $100 to $200+ per person range before tax and tip, according to Menupedia’s 2026 menu guide. Steaks push the top of that range, and Japanese A5 wagyu is priced by the ounce and can run several hundred dollars for a large cut. The restaurant doesn’t publish menu prices online, so the delivery apps (Uber Eats and Postmates both carry the Scottsdale menu) are the fastest way to see current numbers on the non-steak items before you book.
The two ways to eat here for meaningfully less are structural, not secret:
- Happy hour, Monday–Thursday 5–7 pm, bar and patio only, walk-ins welcome: $8 cocktails and bites from $5. That’s the same room, the same bar program and roughly a third of the dinner spend.
- Toca Tuesday: the happy-hour menu is available all night, throughout the restaurant including the dining room. It’s the busiest weeknight for a reason.
If you want the tomahawk show without the tomahawk bill, book a Thursday, sit in the lounge and order the Mayan prawns or the short rib barbacoa for two off the Signatures list. You’ll watch three flaming tomahawks go past to other tables and pay a fraction of what those tables are paying.

Toca Madera Scottsdale Dress Code
Yes, there is a dress code, it is enforced at the door, and it is the most common reason a Toca Madera reservation goes sideways. The restaurant describes it as a “refined, upscale aesthetic.” In practice: dress for a nice night out in Old Town, not for the Fashion Square food court. Jeans are fine if they’re dark and fitted and the rest of the outfit is put together. Per the official policy, the following is not permitted:
- Athletic or gym wear — sweatpants, jerseys, gym shorts, compression garments, tank tops
- Flip flops, slides or overly casual footwear
- Ballcaps, beanies, bandanas or novelty headwear
- Excessively baggy or oversized clothing
- Shorts, except at brunch, and then only tailored ones
- Exposed undergarments, bathing suits or pool wear
- Costumes, costume wigs or themed attire
- Clothing with offensive language or imagery
Themed attire, costume wigs and novelty headwear are on the banned list. Matching sashes, tiaras and novelty veils fall under that rule and can be turned away at the host stand. If the group is dressing up, keep it to outfits, not props, or management may seat you in the lounge instead of the dining room.
Reservations, Table Time and House Rules
Book through the SevenRooms link on tocamadera.com/reservations; OpenTable also carries inventory, though guests report prime Sunday slots blocked there. Friday and Saturday dinner books out a week or more ahead in season (October through April, when the snowbirds and Spring Training crowd are in town). The policies that trip people up, straight from the restaurant’s “Know Before You Go” page:
- 15-minute grace period. Arrive up to 15 minutes early; more than 15 minutes late and the table may be released, with bar or lounge seating offered instead.
- Two-hour table time. Dinner is paced for two hours unless arranged with management in advance.
- Birthdays: put the guest of honor’s name in the reservation notes.
- Groups of 8+ go through private events, with the Main Dining Room, Private Dining Room and Lounge available as settings.
- No outside food, drink or décor without prior approval, and approved items carry a per-guest accommodation fee. That includes your own cake.
- Kids: under 16 welcome until 7 pm; under 21 can’t be in the bar, lounge or members-only areas at any time.
Noble 33 also runs a paid membership tier (“Noir”) with priority access across its restaurants. If you see “members-only” signage in the lounge, that’s what it refers to.
Parking and Getting There
Toca Madera is in the luxury wing at the north end of Scottsdale Fashion Square, on Goldwater Blvd between Camelback and Highland, next to its sister restaurant Tocaya and around the corner from Nobu. Use the mall’s north parking garages off Goldwater rather than the main Camelback Road entrances — the walk is shorter and you skip the Saturday shopping traffic. Reviewers regularly describe parking as “a little tough” on weekend nights; a rideshare from anywhere in Old Town runs $10–$15 and drops at the Goldwater entrance. It’s a five-minute walk to the Waterfront and about fifteen to the Old Town bar district if you’re continuing the night.
The Honest Take: Who Toca Madera Is For
The 4.2 across nearly 2,700 Google reviews is a fair number, and reading a few hundred of them turns up the same split every time.
Birthdays, bachelorette and bachelor weekends, a group that wants Vegas energy without flying to Vegas, a first date you want to impress, or a Tuesday when you want the room at a third of the price. The filet, the hamachi, the cocktails and individual servers get named in review after review.
A quiet anniversary where you want to hear each other, a business dinner, or anyone who’ll resent the bill for a side of fries. Lower-rated reviews cluster on three things: volume, portion size relative to price on sides and some entrées, and a dining room that runs warm on packed summer nights.
Two Scottsdale alternatives if the answer is “skip it”: for the same tableside-fire theatrics with a quieter room, look at the steakhouses in the best restaurants in Scottsdale list; for the nightlife side without the dinner spend, our best happy hours in Scottsdale guide covers the north Fashion Square strip and Old Town.
