What is Scottsdale Walk Club?
Scottsdale Walk Club (@scottsdalewalkingclub on Instagram) is a free weekly social walk in Old Town Scottsdale. It meets at 6 PM on a weeknight, usually a Tuesday or Wednesday, at a different Old Town bar or restaurant each week. The group walks roughly 2 miles, then hangs out at the host spot, which usually runs food or drink deals for walkers.
Two friends started it in fall 2026 to make new friends. Its motto is “Walk, don’t run.” You RSVP through the Partiful link in the club’s Instagram bio, and the next walk’s date and meeting spot are posted there every week.
Heads up: an older account called @scottsdalewalkclub ran Sunday greenbelt walks in 2024 and 2025 and has not posted since April 2025. If you see “Sundays at RT O’Sullivans,” that is the older club.
How Scottsdale Walk Club Works
Scottsdale Walk Club is a social club first and a workout second. Nobody times you, nobody tracks pace, and you do not need any gear beyond shoes you can walk two miles in. The format is the same every week:
- Check the next walk. The date, time and host venue go in the Instagram bio and in a post a few days ahead.
- RSVP on Partiful. The link is in the bio. It is free and helps the host venue plan for the crowd.
- Show up at 6 PM. The group gathers outside the host bar or restaurant, then walks a loop through Old Town, about 1.8 to 2 miles.
- Hang out after. Everyone ends back at the host spot, where walkers have gotten deals like happy hour drinks, wings or a free hand roll.
The club grew fast. Its fifth walk on October 20, 2026 drew a big enough crowd that the organizers posted a thank-you reel, and that reel passed 2,000 likes. By November 4, 2026 the club was on its seventh weekly walk, with more than 3,500 followers on Instagram and more than 3,600 on TikTok.
There Are Two “Scottsdale Walk Clubs.” Here Is Which Is Which.
This trips up a lot of people, and it trips up search engines too. When I checked on November 5, 2026, Google’s AI answer for “scottsdale walk club” was still listing the old Sunday schedule and a meeting spot that does not match either club’s current posts. Here is the straight comparison:
| Detail | Scottsdale Walk Club (current) | The original Scottsdale Walk Club |
|---|---|---|
| @scottsdalewalkingclub | @scottsdalewalkclub | |
| Started | Fall 2026 | Summer 2024 |
| When | Weekly, 6 PM, usually Tue or Wed | Sundays (5:30 PM sunset walks in 2025) |
| Where | A different Old Town bar or restaurant each week | Outside RT O’Sullivans, 7919 E Thomas Rd |
| Route | About 1.8 to 2 miles through Old Town | 3-mile loop on the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt |
| After the walk | Hang at the host venue with walker deals | Informal, often a drink nearby |
| Status (Nov 5, 2026) | Active, posting weekly | No Instagram posts since April 27, 2025 |
The original club deserves a real mention, because it planted the idea. It started in summer 2024 as an alternative to the run club scene, walked Sundays along the greenbelt, welcomed dogs, and ran a “Walker of the Week” spotlight that even featured a few four-legged regulars. Its 2025 season kicked off on March 9, 2025. If it ever comes back, I will update this page.
⚠️ Do not trust an old screenshot
The current club picks a new meeting spot every week. A post from last week, a Google summary or a friend’s text from a month ago can send you to the wrong bar. Check the bio of @scottsdalewalkingclub the day of the walk.
Where Scottsdale Walk Club Has Met
The host venue rotates, so this is a record of recent walks rather than a fixed schedule. It gives you a feel for the format and the part of town you will be in. All of these are in Old Town, within a few blocks of Scottsdale Road.
| Walk | Date | Host spot | What walkers got |
|---|---|---|---|

⚡ AZ INSIDER TIP
Park once and walk. Old Town has free public parking garages within a few blocks of every host spot so far, and the City of Scottsdale’s Old Town parking map shows where they are. Surface lots near Stetson Drive fill up fast on weeknights in season, when the snowbirds are back, so give yourself an extra 10 minutes.
What to Expect on Your First Walk
Short version: it feels more like a happy hour that starts with a walk than a fitness class. A few things worth knowing before you go:
- Coming alone is normal. The club was started by two people who wanted new friends, and its posts invite you to come alone, with friends or “with your ex.” Plenty of people show up solo.
- The pace is a stroll. Expect conversation speed. Members describe it as beginner friendly and walk-at-your-own-pace.
- The walk is free. You pay only for what you order at the host spot afterward.
- Drinking is optional. The host venues are bars and restaurants, so alcohol deals are 21+ with ID. Nobody is going to make you order a sake bomb.
- Dogs depend on the venue. Walkers have brought dogs, but each host bar sets its own rules for the patio and inside. Check the week’s post or DM the club first.
What to Wear and Bring in Scottsdale
A 6 PM walk in the Valley is a different thing in November than it is in July. Here is how I would dress for it by season:

Walking Club vs. Run Club in Scottsdale
Scottsdale already has a huge run club, so the walk club is easy to confuse with it. The two are separate groups with different goals.
| Detail | Scottsdale Walk Club | Scottsdale Run Club |
|---|---|---|
| Distance | About 2 miles, walking | 3 miles, about a 10:30 per mile pace with breaks |
| When | One weeknight, 6 PM | Saturdays 8 AM at the Scottsdale Waterfront, Wednesdays 6:30 PM at Tempe Town Lake |
| Meeting spot | Rotates around Old Town | Same spots every week |
| Signup | RSVP on Partiful | No signup, show up |
| Cost | Free | Free |
Run club details come from the Scottsdale Run Club site. If you want to move faster or do Saturdays, go there. If you want to talk the whole way and end up at a patio, the walk club is your crowd.
Other Walking Groups in Scottsdale
If a weeknight bar walk is not your thing, Scottsdale has a few other free groups worth knowing about.
City of Scottsdale Senior Center Walking Clubs
The city runs walking clubs from October through May. Granite Reef Senior Center walks Wednesdays from 9 to 10 AM through the surrounding south Scottsdale neighborhood. Via Linda Senior Center walks Tuesdays from 8 to 9 AM through Scottsdale Ranch Park and its desert garden, led by the Scottsdale Police crime prevention team. Details are on the city’s recreation activities page.
Blue Zones Indoor Walking Moai at Scottsdale Fashion Square
Blue Zones Project Scottsdale ran a free 10-week indoor walking group at Fashion Square in summer 2026, meeting Thursday mornings outside the Capital One Café and splitting into groups by pace. It is the air-conditioned answer to July. Arizona Foothills Magazine covered the program; check with Fashion Square for the next session.
Meetup Walking Groups
Meetup lists a few Scottsdale walking groups, including Scottsdale Walk & Talk, which has held newcomer walks at Fashion Square. Meetup groups come and go, so look at the most recent event date before you commit.
Best Places to Walk in Scottsdale on Your Own
Walk club is once a week. For the other six days, these are the routes locals actually use:
- Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt. About 11 miles of paved path running north to south through the middle of the city along Hayden Road, with lakes, parks and golf courses on both sides. This is where the original walk club looped from Thomas Road. Flat, mostly shaded by trees, and lit in many stretches.
- Scottsdale Waterfront and the Arizona Canal. Start at the Soleri Bridge and follow the canal path. Easy to add a stop in Old Town on the way back.
- Old Town loop. Main Street’s Arts District, Fifth Avenue and Civic Center Park in one lap. Thursday nights add the art walk along Main Street.
- Chaparral Park. A flat, tree-lined loop around the lake, right on the greenbelt at Hayden and Chaparral. Good for an easy evening lap.
Want real desert instead of pavement? McDowell Mountain Regional Park out by Fountain Hills has trails for every level.
Make a Night of It in Old Town
Most walkers stay for the hang at the host spot. If you want to keep going after, these guides will help:
- Best happy hours in Scottsdale, for when the walk is not on and you still want a deal.
- Best restaurants in Old Town Scottsdale, all within walking distance of the club’s usual turf.
- Things to do in Scottsdale, if you are new in town and building a social calendar.
- Date night ideas in Phoenix and Scottsdale, for when someone from walk club becomes more than a walking buddy.
Own an Old Town bar or restaurant?
Every week this club brings a crowd of locals to one venue on a weeknight. The host spots so far have rolled out walker-only deals in exchange. If you want to host a walk, the club takes messages through its Instagram.
If you want Scottsdale locals to find you the other six nights, AZ Charged hand-picks Arizona businesses for its directory. No pay-to-rank.
