Chase Field parking and bag policy, in one paragraph

Chase Field is at 401 E Jefferson St in downtown Phoenix. The two closest garages are the Chase Field Garage (attached to the ballpark) and the Jefferson Street Garage, and the D-backs sell advance parking through ParkWhiz; game-day garage rates have started around $10 and climb for big games. Bags must be clear and no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″, or a one-gallon clear freezer bag, plus one small clutch no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″. Backpacks are not allowed. Gates open 90 minutes before first pitch Sunday through Friday and 2 hours before on Saturdays. Light rail stops at 3rd St/Jefferson and 3rd St/Washington, a short walk from the gates.

Rates change by game and event. Check ParkWhiz and the D-backs ballpark pages the week you go.

Chase Field is the easiest big venue in the Valley to get to and the easiest to overpay for parking at. It sits right on the light rail line, it has two garages within a block, and it is surrounded by surface lots that charge whatever the game will bear. This guide covers where to park, what bag gets through the gate, and the rules people get caught by, for D-backs games and the concerts and events the ballpark hosts the rest of the year. Heading to a Cardinals game or a stadium concert out west instead? Our State Farm Stadium parking and bag policy guide covers Glendale.

Chase Field parking: garages, lots and prices

The D-backs don’t run a big surface lot complex like the stadiums out in Glendale. Parking here is a mix of two main garages next to the ballpark and dozens of private lots and garages across downtown. The team’s preferred partner is ParkWhiz, which lets you buy a specific space before you leave home.

Option Where Best for
Chase Field Garage 401 E Jefferson St, attached to the ballpark. Street-level bike racks. Shortest walk. Buy ahead on ParkWhiz for bigger games.
Jefferson Street Garage On Jefferson west of the ballpark, between Chase Field and Mortgage Matchup Center. Street-level bike racks. Nights when the Suns or a concert are not also downtown.
Private surface lots East of the ballpark on Jefferson and Washington, and north along 7th Street. A faster exit east onto 7th Street and I-10.
Valley Metro Rail 3rd St/Jefferson station (eastbound) and 3rd St/Washington station (westbound). Tempe, Mesa and north-central Phoenix fans who want zero parking hassle.
Rideshare 5th Street north of Washington, and Jackson Street east of 9th Street. Anyone drinking. Walk two blocks before you request.

How much is parking at Chase Field?

Main garages, regular-season gameFrom about $10
Main garages, big games and concertsHigher, set per event
Private lots east and northVaries by lot and night
Best way to lock a pricePrepay on ParkWhiz

The “from about $10” figure is the starting game-day garage rate reported in a 2026 Chase Field stadium guide. The D-backs do not publish a fixed rate card, so treat it as a floor, not a quote. ParkWhiz shows the live price for each game.

⚡ AZ INSIDER TIP

Check the Suns and Mercury schedule before you pick a garage. When there’s a game or concert at Mortgage Matchup Center the same night, the Jefferson Street Garage fills with arena traffic and the exit backs up for both crowds. On those nights, park east of 7th Street or take the light rail. And if you live anywhere near a park-and-ride along the line in Tempe or Mesa, the train is faster than the garage exit after a sold-out game.

Chase Field bag policy

The D-backs run a clear bag policy for every event at Chase Field, and security reviews it every year. Each ticket holder can bring:

  • One clear bag (plastic, vinyl or PVC) no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″.
  • Or a one-gallon clear freezer bag, the Ziploc kind.
  • Plus one small clutch no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″, with or without a strap.
  • Medically necessary items, after inspection at a designated gate.
⚠️ What gets turned away

Backpacks, purses bigger than a clutch, fanny packs, cinch bags, camera and computer bags, briefcases and luggage of any kind. A regular diaper bag only gets in if it meets the clear bag or clutch rule, so pack diapers and wipes in a clear bag instead.

Food, water and what else you can bring into Chase Field

This is the part most people don’t know: Chase Field lets you bring your own food, as long as it’s inside your clear bag. That makes it one of the cheapest ballparks in baseball to feed a family at.

Item Rule
Outside food Allowed in a clear plastic bag. Staff may inspect it.
Drinks Only non-flavored, non-carbonated water in sealed plastic bottles, empty plastic water bottles, and sealed single-serving juice boxes. Formula and baby food are fine.
Cameras Phones and non-professional cameras are fine. Lenses 8 inches long or less. No tripods or monopods, and no recording game action.
Strollers Allowed if they don’t block aisles. Check them at Guest Relations, Section 128 or 322. No rentals.
Not allowed Umbrellas, backpacks, coolers, luggage, laptops and tablets in bags, video recording devices, laser pointers, noisemakers, selfie sticks, weapons, alcohol and illegal drugs

Gates, re-entry and smoking at Chase Field

  • Gates open: 90 minutes before first pitch Sunday through Friday, and 2 hours before on Saturdays. D-backs Advantage Members get 30 extra minutes on Fridays and Saturdays at Gates B and J.
  • Re-entry: allowed through Gates A, F, J and K. Have the usher scan you out, then scan back in.
  • Smoking: the ballpark is non-smoking, e-cigarettes and cigars included. The designated smoking areas are outside Gates A (north plaza), F, J (east) and K (northeast), and you need your digital ticket to get back in.
  • Bikes: not allowed inside. Racks are at street level in the Chase Field Garage and Jefferson Street Garage, on the plaza south of Caesars Sportsbook, outside Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, and across from Gate K.
✅ Bringing the kids?

Kids 3 and older need their own ticket. Free booster seats and seat-location wristbands are at Guest Relations (Sections 128 and 322). The Kids Club is free for fans 15 and under, and after Sunday home games kids can run the bases, lining up at Gate J starting in the top of the 9th.
